I may be a bit long winded here, which is hard to do when you're typing and not speaking, but I ask that you just hold on to something as I try my best to spill a great big bunch of thoughts from my brain.
So what does Image Comics celebrating 30 years of publishing history have to do with Steeven Orr Else?
I'm glad you asked.
See, I only just stumbled upon the fact that this month (April 2022) is the 30th Anniversary of Image Comics. Knowing that fact now has got me all in a tizzy when it comes to Steeven Orr Else and I'll tell you why.
In this post here: WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH STEEVEN ORR ELSE?, I talk a bit about my plans for how I might want to bring back the podcast I abandoned 6 months ago, and I mention that I wanted to pick some sort of theme in regard to the comics I talk about on each episode, if I was to bring the show back.
For example, I thought I might want to find a collection of Golden Age Comics to talk about.
However, the idea hit upon me just a few days ago that it might be fun to read through all of the #1 Image Comics issues I bought all throughout the 90's and talk about them, one at a time, in each episode, beginning with the issue that kicked off the whole thing: Youngblood #1.
Well, here's the thing. Youngblood #1, by Rob Liefeld and Hank Kanalz, hit that stands in April of 1992. I knew that fact when I read the issue for the first time in almost 30 years just a few days ago, and I knew that fact as I sat here today working on my show notes for this new episode of Steeven Orr Else.
And yet, it didn't dawn on me right away that this month was April and that this month is 30 years from the month that Youngblood #1 was released.
Once that realization popped into my head I began to try and make some plans. Which, if you know me, isn't always the best of things to happen to me and my life.
See, here's what I had been thinking over the last couple of days in regard to Image #1 issues from the 90's and Steeven Orr Else.
First: I would choose the first ten to twelve #1 issues that were released by Image, list them out in order they were released, and then that would be my first, new season of Steeven Orr Else.
Second: It takes me a while to create an episode of Steeven Orr Else because of the content. I have to write the scripts, perform the sketches, read the books, record my thoughts, and then put it all together. So, I figured that I would just take my time and get all ten to twelve episodes of the new first season of Steeven Orr Else in the can before I released any of them.
Then I started researching the publication of #1 Image titles starting with Youngblood #1 and I found that Image released a total of eight #1 issues in their first year: 1992.
Great. I can handle that. My first new season of Steeven Orr Else would be eight episodes long and would line up as such:
Okay then. I had my list. Now all I had to do was get up into my attic, dig through all of my unsorted comics, pull those eight issues out, read them, write up eight sketches, write up eight fake commercials, write up eight comic reviews, write up eight other odds and ends to fill eight episodes, record eight episodes, edit eight episodes, and then finally, release eight episodes.
And really, since I've already made peace with the fact that I can take my time, because I've set myself no deadlines, I'm all kinds of Cool Breeze Number One.
Then, as I'm looking over my list of eight comics there, it suddenly dawns on me... Youngblood #1 was released 30 years ago this month, and since it was the first book that Image released, that means that Image is celebrating 30 Years of publishing this month as well.
Of course, once that thought hit my brain I couldn't help but leap upon the second thought: I need to tie this in to the podcast somehow!
That's where I find myself placing myself in a bit of a pickle.
First off, I told you this was going to be long winded. If you've made it this far, kudos to you!
Second: I hadn't quite decided what I was going to do for Episode 254 of Just Another Fanboy, and now, it seems I have: Talk about Youngblood #1 (of course) and maybe EVERYTHING ELSE I'M PUTTING DOWN IN THIS POST AS WELL!
Third, and here's the part where I'm placing myself into considerable trouble, I'm seriously toying with the idea of trying to schedule these eight episodes of Steeven Orr Else to coincide with the release schedule of these eight Image issues.
I mean, looking at them, the idea of doing eight episodes in seven months seems doable, but I know, I KNOW, these episodes depend on whether or not I'm in a creative mood and I find that I'm not always in a creative mood.
Currently, I'm in a creative mood and I feel like I would have no problems getting this first episode done and released before the end of the month.
Then I would have TWO WHOLE MONTHS to get the second episode out, and another TWO FULL MONTHS for the third.
But then August hits and I'd have to be able to produce three episodes that month, and frankly, that's what's giving me the most pause. But, if I could do that, then I just have two more episodes left. One for October and one for November.
I can't believe I'm seriously considering this!
