Well, I read the final issue of The Human Target last night, and I'm still trying to figure out quite how I feel.
While I had figured out who the killer was very early in, I was not quite expecting that ending.
I'm not going to spoil it here, but whomever replies, feel free to spoil away.
Anyway, at first, I was angry. It wasn't only an ending I wasn't expecting, it wasn't an ending I wanted.
And yet, as I think on it this morning, I've begun to realize how much I actually liked it.
It was definitely bitter sweet, but there is closure, and a bit of much deserved vengeance there at the end.
Tom King crafted the kind of story that kept my attention from issue one and made me yearn each month for the next issue. That break between issues 6 and 7 nearly killed me... in a metaphorical sense.
But the element that took a great story and made the series the kind of comic I think folks will be talking about for the next 50 years or so is Greg Smallwood's art.
I've not bought a physical comic book in many years, but there's a big part of me that wants to seek out these 12 issues just to own something I can touch that looks so beautiful.
And again, the more I think about that ending, the more I like it.
