This week's strip opens in a courtroom. 'Slot' Gorgon is on trial for murder. Representing him is his mouthpiece The Black Queen.
After a not guilty verdict is rendered we find out from courtroom reporters gather outside that this is not the first time this underworld duo have escaped justice.
Gorgon attempts to put the moves on The Black Queen, who turns out to be his boss. The two are interrupted by The Spirit.
We are told for the second time this strip that the local school board is having trouble funding free lunches for students, this time by The Spirit. It turns out The Spirit is there to gather these two to facilitate a re-trial of Gorgon, this time the Spirit's way.
A couple panels show more humor than previous. In one The Spirit tricks Gorgon into a physical confrontation and the second we see The Spirit, Gorgon in tow interrupt The Black Queen as she is changing clothes.
Officially The Spirit's cabby/right hand man has a name, Ebony White.
Zooming around, with Ebony's assistance The Spirit gathers the trial principles and the group retires to The Spirit's hidden lair amidst the graves at Wildwood Cemetery.
Now that we have Gorgon, The Black Queen, the coroner and the district attorney held at gunpoint the faux trial commences. The entire point is simply to get a recording of Gordon making a full confession.
Gorgon attempts to flee The Spirit only to ultimately be subdued. In the process Gorgon is force to write a check donating his ill gotten booty to the local school board to fund the free lunch program. Now we know why it was mentioned frequently.
An official re-trial is held with Gorgon's admission used as evidence. This time The Black Queen is not able to get Gorgon off.
The Spirit has Ebony White drive him back to his cemetery hideout.
