I'm about an hour and a half from finishing this audio book. Originally published in 1988, it's probably been that long since I first read it. The Crystal Shard is Book One of the Icewind Dale Trilogy set in the Forgotten Realms Universe. But more than that (though none of us could have even guessed at the time) it is also the book that launched a massive series of stories and books starring Drizzt Do'Urden, a dark elf gone good that was soon to become the Wolverine of the fantasy world. The guy who narrates this book isn't great, but I'm still enjoying it.

What's funny is that back then, and for many years after, The Crystal Shard was considered Book One of the Icewind Dale Trilogy, which I'm already mentioned.
Nowadays however, it's considered Book Four of the Legend of Drizzt, which, according to Audible, has 35 books inn the series.
35 BOOKS!

It may be chronologically be 4th for Drizzt but it's only the second Forgotten Realms book in publishing order. I'm 28% of the way through it.

The second Forgotten Realms book and the first published Drizzt book. He's just written so many more, and three of them prequels, that that's how they "market" it now.

Fished it today. Solid narrative. I think I'm looking forward to the group being on the move more. I can certainly see the beginnings of why Drxxt will become so popular.

I have the next book in my audio book queue, but it's not next up for me to listen to.
