Brzrkr 11
Written by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt Illustrated by Ron Garney Colored by Bill Crabtree Lettered by Clem Robins
Unute the immortal is being studied by the US military industrial complex. The agreement is that in exchange for being a lab rat Unute will find out what makes him immortal and hopefully find a way to shut it down when/if he wants to, at present he cannot. The government wants to understand so they can weaponize the knowledge. Unute is unmatched on the field of battle.
Other than Unute there have been two principles in the story. Diana a researcher who has had genuine concern for Unute that has potentially developed into more and Caldwell a typical government man or so we were lead to believe. It seems Calwell was after something more personal than just information as this issues shows in spades.
This issue sees Calwell's behind the scene manipulations come to fruition. Unute becomes mortal(?) and I think Diana becomes impregnated with Unutes offspring but we'll hafta see about that.
I'm not sure how I feel about where the story, is going? Only one more issue and both an animated and live action rendition pending. Artwork has been awesome. Concept different. Execution I'll wait and decide after all 12 issues have been consumed.
Eve Children of the Moon 3
Written by Victor LaValle Illustrated by Jo Mi-Gyeong Colored by Brittany Peer Lettered by And World Designs
This story seems much smaller in scale to me than the first volume. The first volume was the story of how a little girl and her teddy bear kick started the earth after a man made ecological disaster. This story is about that same little girl and her same teddy bear trying to find out why one of the human colonies that survived has not been in touch with any of the other surviving colonies.
Having said all that realize that the minutiae of both stories is what allows LaValle to fill out his thoughts to be encompassed by multiple 25+ page comic books.
We do get more information on plans Eve's father had if her, Eve's, mission was not successful. One of those contingencies is a construct possibly even stronger and more deadly than Wexler (the teddy bear) and was put into motion by the main story element from the first volume that ultimately allowed Eve to jumpstart the ruined Earth.
I think the 'outlaw' colony is being a bit naive and even juvenile in its current beliefs and desires. Seems to me the first volume's story was a bit higher brow than what this volume feels. Could just be me though.
Solid art. I'll finish the story to see but I think I will have enjoyed the first volume more.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 103
Written by Melissa Flores Illustrated by Simona Di Gianfelice Colored by Raul Angulo Lettered by Ed Dukeshire
Issue 101 of Mighty Morphin Rower Rangers started a new paradigm post Death Ranger. Seven Rangers have to help Zedd when he is attacked by Rita Repulsa aka Mistress Vile and an unknown accomplice. After a pretty massive series of sorties six of the rangers manage to escape Zedd's moon castle, Zedd and Goldar in tow and lip back to earth.
Now the status quo is two sets of rangers. The Omgega Rangers in deep space and the Dino(?) rangers plus White and Green on Earth. Zedd is dying, Rita is planning and the Rangers are attempting to locate the Omega Rangers and not get distracted by the fact they left the Green ranger behind after their initial confrontation with Mistress Vile.
I have not kept up to speed with the previous books nor am I versed in Ranger lore and it is holding me back a bit. I can't match up name/faces with Rangers and so any relationships not shown are foreign to me. What I have seen is interesting but the book is difficult to get into cold.
Something is Killing the Children 27
Written by James Tynion IV Illustrated by Werther Dell'Edera Colored by Miquel Muerto Lettered By And World Desiigns
Each chapter of Erica's story seems to be about her having to fight battles on an ever increasing number of fronts. Now she's on her own, on or near tribal US lands, Gabi is a monster all her own, the authorities first don't believe Erica and now are flat out hunting her, Cutter is in town hunting Erica and the monster Erica is hunting is deathly afraid of Erica.
Erica cut ties with House of Slaughter and by extension the Order of St George. The Order in return cut ties with Erica by sending out an assassin (Cutter) after her. The lone person that was connected and on Erica's side has been killed so she is truly in the cold.
The monster Erica is hunting, a duplicitype, will eventually become indistinguishable from regular humans and so Eric has to find it and kill it before that happens.
Gabi is a total pain in the ass and I detest that type of child depiction the most of any.
Cutter has basically come to town and set Erica up as a child killer wanted by Interpol and so the local Sheriff now is in question.
So we have monster, Cutter and locals all gunning for Erica who has no support. Gonna be an interesting finish to this chapter.
