Superman looks into the burning of commercial ships and finds something, or someone, sinister behind it all. All this and much more as Ed and Steeven talk about The Return of the Ultra-Humanite, the Superman story that appeared in Action Comics #17, which was published by DC Comics with a cover date of October, 1939. But first, your hosts spend over 15 minutes of pre-Superman banter in which they discuss new comics, old comics, and even Steeven's new upcoming podcast venture where he'll be talking about The Death of Superman. Plus, this episode, or Steeven in particular, is plagued by issues that are all caused by a single cat. Another fine episode, gentlemen!
I find myself really struggling to enjoy these early issues as this isn’t the Superman we are eventually going to get. Superman letting people die when he could probably save them or not helping right away just doesn’t sit right with me. For example, letting the civilians try to put out the fire when he could (and eventually did) do it easily himself just seems weird. I picture fire fighters showing up at a blaze and hanging back saying “let’s wait and see how these people handle it first”.
I do think the writing and the artwork are improving and the issues look more dynamic.
I am still greatly enjoying the podcast and hope it goes for a long time. It is great having the DC Infinite app finally and being able to follow along.

Thank you for the kind words.
I understannd the "dislike" for this style of Superman. I read it as the beginning of a journey that gets us to where we are now. Fortunately the now shows us things get better if we just hang in there. Plus you get the opportuity to enconter all of the firsts of the journey.
I hope the podcast goes for quite a while as well. Time will tell.

I think we are all in the same boat (I just hope it doesn't catch fire and that Superman doesn't show up to see if we will put the fire out first before doing something). This is, most definitely not my Superman. I am having fun with some of these stories, however, and it's good to know that it will get better.
