Our setting this strip is a small fishing village on the New England coast of the US. We find that The Spirit has followed Yagor and Yagor has been aware of this the entire time. At gunpoint The Spirit is escorted and more of our story is filled in for us by the conversation between the two. Yagor is soon visited by Emil Kampf with whom Yagor hopes to strike u a business deal. Alas the merchandise that Yagor has for sale does not meet Emil's standards. In revenge Yagor uses another invention, a bloodhound robot, to punish Emil for his refusal of Yagor's offer. When The Spirit attempts to take Yagor into custody he finds that the initial product Yagor wished to sell, a giant robot is more than a match and he is knocked unconscious. When he awakens The Spirit finds Yagor and the giant robot gone and in their place, a bloodhound robot ready to explode. Escaping this menace The Spirit sets out after Yagor. Meanwhile Yagor has set his sites on the destruction of New York. The giant robot trashes everything in sight and in turn releases dozens of blood hound robots that start exploding all over town. Police Commissioner's police forces defeat the giant robot. The Spirit brings in Yagor asking that he be allowed to do so and leave in peace. One officer overhears that The Spirit will be there and attempts tp take The Spirit into custody only to be foiled by 'the old pipe trick'.

First off look at that awesome drawing of Yagor holding one of his bloodhound robots. Man that is just gorgeous. I'm not sure how many other craftsmen in the early 1940's could create like that. I liked the setting. A small new england fishing village, in the rain, at night. Very cthulhu-esce, one of my favorites. Curious interplay between Yagor and The Spirit. Very congenial in nature despite the fact that The Spirit is there ultimately to bring Yagor to justice. Yagor initially uses a pistol to even the odds but then the scene shifts with the arrival of Emil to some kind of tense voyeuristic kind of thing with The Spirit content to witness what is going down. Even so far as to not do anything to stop Yagor from releasing the first bloodhound robot which Yagor says menacingly will in code will kill Emil. Fascinating to see 1940's ideas of automation and robotry. Finally after the radio reports the news of the small robot exploding The Spirit decides it's time to take Yagor into custody. I little late I think. The Spirit looses his confrontation with Yagor's giant robot which gives Yagor time to initiate his plan to rein destruction down on New York City. Not sure why though. Emil is who did him wrong and Yagor evened that score. I guess evil sometimes just does evil. The Spirit subdues Yagor but the giant robot is well on it's way to New York by then. Nice visuals of he giant robot and several of he bloodhound robots wreaking destruction. The Spirit calls Commissioner Dolan and makes arrangements to bring Yagor to police headquarters in exchange for being left alone but one of the other officers overhears Dolan's end of the conversation and decides his career is more important. The overhearing officer, O'Rourke now lies in ambush waiting for The Spirit to show up. The Spirit ends up tricking O'Rourke with 'the old pipe trick'.
