In 1987, LT Colonel Al Simmons died, survived by his widow, Wanda Blake.

In present day, Al is alive. He doesn’t remember much, but he recalls making a deal to come back because of his love for Wanda… though he doesn’t remember her name.

He was given power, however, and now he’s Spawn.

Spawn’s pissed because while yes, he was brought back, he was brought back without his memories and he’s bound and determined to do something about that.

In the meantime, NYPD Detectives, Sam and Twitch, investigate the murder of mob guy, Carlo Giamotti.

Said mob guy had his heart removed and shoved into his mouth before he was thrown out a thirty-fourth floor window.

This is not, we learn, the first such murder.

Elsewhere in the city, street toughs are about to sexually assault a woman when Spawn intervenes and saves her.

But then he breaks down, crying in her arms and she tries to comfort him.

Later, when he is alone, Al removes his mask and gloves for the first time and realizes that he is all burnt up and scarred.

Somewhere else, a demonic figure laughs.
