This is becoming a topic I keep coming back to as I fall down the various rabbit holes one does over the course of time.
Those renegade/outlaw books found in SoCal head shops in the late 60's and the creators that made them.
A History of Underground Comix by Mark James Estren has a place beside the bed. I've been reading.
Apex Novelties, Kitchen Sink Press, Last Gasp, Print Mint and Rip Off Press are some of the earliest publishers. Creators like R Crumb, Kim Deitch, Trina Robbins, Spain Rodriguez and Gilbert Shelton created books like Zap Comix, Arcade, Bijou Funnies, Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Wimmen Comix.
Seems to be where alot of my interest has been going lately.
Anyone into this stuff? Ideas? Thoughts?
