Being the mood reader that I am I recently switched back to digging into another (Vampirella, Golden Age Batman, Complete ) reading project. Thsi one started when Make Ours Marvel started and I wanted to read along with them. They have since faded and I fell behind readig as well. Lately I have been trying to catch back up and keep reading. This weekend I have finished up March 1967 and April 1967. The podcast ended with staring coverage of books from Januaray 1968. To determine what books to hunt up and read I have been using Mike's Amazing World of Comics newstand feature. Party on Garth!!

This year's count of comics and manga is sitting at 600 so far. That does not count a handful of books and magazines I have read also. Probably another 15-20 there.
Reading is pretty much what I do with my spare time.

Hmm looking at my stuff and I see that I have only read up to March 1967. I'm going to try and read March and then get back here and let you know my thoughts on each.
Looks like the books are
Amazing Spider-Man 51 Avengers 43 Daredevil 31 Fantastic Four 65 The Mighty Thor 143 Strange Tales 159 Tales of Suspense 92 Tales to Astonish 94 X-Men 35
Well at least those are the books I'm going to try to read.

I don't think I've ever realized that Gene Colan was the contemporary, at Marvel, of Jack Kirby that he was. I fully appreciate Kirby's part in Marvel at this point but I honestly believe I like Colan's art more.
We get the second appearances of both Kingpen who at this point is a Sider-Man villain and the High Evolutionary.
Red Guardian, a blind Daredevil (I know, I know), Ronan the Accuser and Mordo.
I like how the Nick Fury story from Strange Tales ties in so closely to the Captain America story from Tales of Suspense.
Solid silver age Marvel with plenty of building blocks on display.

I’ve been following along with the podcast My Marvelous Year. They don’t read everything but do a sample of each year’s books. One of the hosts runs the website Comic Book Herald which publishes reading chronologies so he’s pretty knowledgeable. I’m back on 1983 and they’re up to 2002 because I’m behind on all fun activities but it’s been good up to that point.
