So, I have an appointment today at a medical facility that specialized in weight loss and treats it medically.
Based on their new patient video, I have a good feeling about this place.
Wish me luck.

So they appointment went really well. I have a plan, or at least a basic list of stuff I should eat and stuff I shouldn't. And I have my first goal, 20 pounds lost in 90 days. I'm very optimistic about this approach and this plan. However, what I cannot eat are the following: - Grains (all of them, including rice, oatmeal, quinoa, pasta, bread, etc)
- Potatoes (all of them, even sweet potatoes
- Sugar (including artificial sweeteners, honey, stevia, dates, monk fruit, etc)
No potatoes, breads, pastas, and sugar is going to be more than difficult. But, I'm going to do my best and we'll see what we see.

wow thats a strict one! No sweet potatoes or stevia? This is for 90 days huh? I did the “Whole 30” for a month - probably pretty similar to your plan and it was tough at times but doable. I struggle with my weight too. Good luck man, keep us updated.

So far I haven't had any issues staying away from the grains and potatoes.
I've even managed to stay away from sugar. No more cakes or donuts and stuff.
However, I'm still drinking diet soda.
I'm not supposed to be eating or drinking anything that contains a sugar substitute, so I am supposed to stop drinking diet soda.
But, I've dropped from 7-8 cans a day to just 2. One in the morning, and one in the afternoon.

thats the way to do it. i understand WHY they want you to go cold turkey from sugar and things that remind your body of sugar (stevia, etc.), but its not realistic to expect people to make and stick with such dramatic changes overnight. it has to be something youre ok with long term or else it wont stick.
i have been having problems with marijuana - it makes me eat way more, lots of fast food, be active way less, etc. trying to stop and 3 days clean so far (lol). also trying to eat clean too with this local meal prep service.
its weird because i will do great for a month or two, feel fabulous (i 100% notice a change in energy, mood, stomach issues), take in a notch or two on the belt, and then still blow it!

Keep on it, man. We can both do this!

Had my first official weigh in today and I am down 6.6 pounds, so that is a great first step!
I’m actually there in the offices now just waiting to talk to the Doc.

What's your target loss and target date?

I don't have one of either.
This program isn't about that. It's first about losing weight until I decide that's enough. Then it will be about maintenance.
That being said . . . If I could lose 100 pounds, that would be great.

Hope things are continuing without too much discomfort! in the past, I did a fast that proved to me how much hunger and eating can be tied to emotion and mood. Or just simply boredom. During the quarantine of summer 2020 I had to really stay focused on not just binging to appease my sweet-tooth. In those moments I down a glass of water or juice and things settle.
Currently, because of some high blood pressure and other things, I'm doing an intermittent fasting. I don't eat any foods between 10:00pm and noon the next day. It works in my schedule in a number of ways. On days that I work, I'm usually in bed the night before at 10 so sleep takes up a good chunk of the time. I also can't really eat before teaching dance classes so that fills up the rest of the time. Even on days when I'm not working, drinking water helps to curb any "hunger". But after at least 4-5 months of this, the schedule is now firmly in place and I don't notice any "need" to eat during that time. Plus, I can eat what I want - within a good portion - and some days I wind up only eating two meals and snacks and it's enough.
Now I say all this with the added notion that I teach seven classes of dance a week. So I'm getting a good amount of exercise. But the notion of "hunger" and cravings is a journey for sure.
As for any weight loss, any amount of exercise - no matter how small - is good. For my blood pressure, simply walking 30 minutes a day last summer brought it down. I don't go to a gym but I try to use handheld weights for very low rep sets and even doing that takes inches and helps to improve my well being. I'm a firm believer of "even if you do something badly, at least you're doing something!" Meaning, two 5 or 10 pound handheld weights, and only doing 25-50 motions a night is better than not doing anything at all. Just be sure to stretch before and after so you don't pull a back muscle or hurt any arm muscles.
I'm fortunate that I have a job that is highly physical - but adding some kind of movement (walking, stretching, working out lightly, etc) will also help a weight loss journey.
If you ever want suggestions on stretches/exercises email me - there are youtube videos that are super simple, that aren't high impact, and that stretch your body while "working out". And they take maybe 10-20 minutes and you only have to do them maybe 2-3 times a week.
All the best!

I have another weigh in on Friday, but so far I've lost 9 pounds since I started the diet.
I'm still off of sugar, except for what's in milk and a bit of peanut butter, so that's going good.
I'm still trying to get off the diet soda, but I have a plan in place and if all goes good I'm hoping to completely free of that by this time next week.
I'll post a full update on Friday.
